Prior to founding Brown Partners with his brother John, Gerard was a corporate partner for a combined 13 years at leading New Zealand law firms, Minter Ellison Rudd Watts and Russell McVeagh, preceded by four years at London "Magic Circle" firm Slaughter and May.
Gerard has acted over the course of his career for many significant (some iconic) offshore and New Zealand companies and businesses, operating in a variety of industry and business sectors, on a large number of significant corporate transactions and matters.
Gerard’s substantial track record in high-profile transactions was recognised at the prestigious ALB Australasian Law Awards, winning the inaugural “New Zealand Deal of the Year” award and being a finalist for the “New Zealand Dealmaker of the Year” award.
Gerard’s extensive experience includes advice on acquisitions and disposals, incorporated and unincorporated joint venture arrangements, limited partnerships, various other forms of investment structures, shareholder agreements, major supply and services contracts, other major commercial transactions and contracts, capital raising (including financial markets laws compliance), corporate finance, corporate restructuring and insolvency issues.
